Why has the Prayer Vigil become an Easter tradition at First Church?
For many members of our congregation, participating in the annual Prayer Vigil has become a significant part of their Easter tradition. These vigil participants — individuals, couples, and families — have discovered the Prayer Vigil is an excellent opportunity to prepare for a meaningful Easter experience. FPC members look forward to being linked together in prayer with other members of the congregation as part of the annual 58-hour prayer chain. They are also blessed when they spend 30 minutes of quiet time in the presence of the Lord.
When is the Prayer Vigil?
This year’s Vigil is a continuous chain of prayer that begins on Maundy Thursday (9:00 p.m., April 18), and continues around-the-clock until sunrise on Easter Sunday (7:00 a.m., April 21).
Where do I pray? How long do I pray?
Vigil participants may pray at home or any place they feel comfortable. The Vigil includes 116 30-minute prayer periods. One or more time periods can be selected. Each prayer period can only be reserved for one person/family/group.
Where can I register for the Vigil?
In-person Vigil registration is scheduled on Sundays, April 7 and 14. Sunday registration tables will be located in the Miller Atrium and in the Bernsen Center for the TIF congregation.
Can I register for the Vigil online?
Online registration begins on Tuesday, April 9. Register online by clicking the Easter Prayer Vigil 2019 Registration button at the top of this page, which goes "live" on Tuesday, April 9. Additional names can be entered on the registration form when family members or friends want to pray together during a specific 30-minute prayer period.
Can home-bound members participate in the Prayer Vigil?
We encourage home-bound members to participate! Home-bound members may register online, or may call Mark or Paula Peterson. A prayer packet can also be requested by contacting the Petersons.
What is included in the Prayer Packet?
All registrants will receive a prayer packet that includes valuable information regarding prayer and meditation, plus specific suggestions for making the 30-minute prayer period a spiritually rewarding experience.
Where can I pick up a Prayer Packet?
Prayer Packets will be available at the Sunday registration tables for those who register in person and online. Individuals who are unable to pick up a packet at the registration tables may contact the Petersons to make special arrangements to receive one.
