This fall, you are invited to step into the timeless experience of revelation and discovery once again through art. Reveal is the latest exhibition in the ongoing ministry of Atrium Art, which showcases world-class artwork in a unique non-traditional gallery setting. Reveal features large-scale ceramic artwork by studio artist Whitney Forsyth, who is a long-time church member and served as an associate professor of art at the University of Tulsa for 17 years.
Over 6,000 colorful ceramic petals will cascade through each of the six arched niches in the First Presbyterian Church atrium, forming intricate waves and swirls in a dazzling array of bright colors over twenty feet high. Several other installations will be on display around the church, including an eight-foot circular mandala located in the Prayer Room.
“When you give an artist a space like the Atrium, there are so many visual possibilities. The architecture, stained glass windows, and natural light are an incredible inspiration and backdrop to exhibit art.”
– Whitney Forsyth
As we consider the relationship between faith and art, First Presbyterian Church Co-pastor Dr. Moore reminds us of another Biblical term, to behold: “The idea of beholding is not about just observation but also about entering into and being transformed. Good art does that.”
You are invited to join us for a special open house event on First Friday, November 2 from 5-8 p.m., featuring a gallery talk by the artist, refreshments, and live music.
You are also invited to an artist talk event on Wednesday, November 7 starting at 6:30 p.m. Whitney Forsyth will lead a special presentation examining the inspiration behind the exhibition and how her personal journey as an artist led her to this vibrant chapter in her career.
Visitors of all art and faith backgrounds are encouraged to come and discover something new through Reveal. Atrium Art is free and open to the public, November 2018 - February 2019. Learn more online at atriumart.org or by calling 918-584-4701.
The exhibit is open weekdays from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. with extended hours 'til 8 p.m. on Wednesdays. Call to inquire for special hours and docent-lead tours.
