Book Table

The Book Corner is located at the north end of the Miller Atrium. The Book Corner offers books for purchase to members and visitors, to assist them in their spiritual pursuits. All books are sold at cost, and most titles are associated with a course being offered in the church curriculum. Each month, the Book Corner also displays a "Staff Pick of the Month," featuring the a new book recommended by a staff member along with a review of each pick.

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12:2

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis

Chosen By: Lucas Forsythe, Director of Communications

As a child, reading The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe was one of the first times that I experienced the Christian story of redemption revealed in the pages of creative fiction. C.S. Lewis' novel is simple enough for children to grasp and yet vivid enough to engage adults. I used to long for the excitement of swordplay, castles, and magic (and perhaps still do), but in the midst of the book's life-like characters and fantastic winter scenery, I think I discovered something even more magical. I saw how I myself, a mere child like Peter, Susan, Edmon, or Lucy, could actually engage with the awe-inspiring (and even dangerous) power of our personal savior in a very real way.

Through the lens of fantasy, my own perspective on real life salvation was renewed, and it started a life-long fascination with discovering the story of redemption in creative fiction. Why is it that so many books, movies, and TV shows share so many similar plot elements? Why is even our secular culture actively obsessed with heroes, life, death, sacrifice, and rebirth? To me, it's ever more evidence of the world's surprisingly specific need for an authentic and powerful savior.

Through the fiction of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, I pray that your faith will be refreshed and that your sense of excitement will be renewed as you consider the very real adventure of your own personal narrative of salvation!
