We live in a highly skeptical age. Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens and other "evangelists of doubt" have become more aggressive in their ridicule of the Christian faith. But there's nothing novel in that. The apostle Peter urges Christians to " . . . be ready to make a defense to anyone who demands the hope that is in you" (I Peter 3:15). And that's precisely the purpose behind Timothy Keller's book, Reason for God: Belief in an Age of Skepticism. Keller, who's lived in New York CIty for twenty years, invites the reader to consider seven of the most common objections to the Christian faith:
1. There can't be just one true religion.
2. A good God could not allow suffering.
3. Christianity is a straitjacket.
4. The church is responsible for so much injustice.
5. A loving God would not send people to hell.
6. Science has disproved Christianity.
