Women's Ministries

First Church’s Women’s Ministry helps women connect in meaningful relationships, grow and nurture their faith, serve within the church and beyond, and make a difference to unchurched women by inviting them to follow Christ.

We invite you to find a place to connect and grow.

Presbyterian Women

Long the backbone of mission at First Church, the women of First church are organized into 7 circles (small groups) and relate to the national Presbyterian Women organization of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).  PW is committed to nurturing faith through “Horizons” Bible study and prayer, supporting the church's mission, working for justice, and building community.
At First Church, Presbyterian Women begin another year of study and service in September. If you are not currently a member of Presbyterian Women, please consider becoming involved in one or more of the following services:

  •  Sewing Project: A group of Presbyterian Women meet in the Tower Room on the first and third Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. to sew—primarily making baby gowns, receiving blankets, and quilts for various mission programs. They promise to help show you how to create their "labors of love" even if you have no sewing experience!
  • Clip Joint: Another group of Presbyterian Women meet at the church on the first and third Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. to clip Campbell Soup, Swanson, and other food labels for the purpose of purchasing a van for the Goodland Boys Home in Hugo, Oklahoma. They are always happy to have more helping hands!
  • Circles: Presbyterian Women offer you the opportunity to get acquainted in small groups called "Circles." Ten Circles meet monthly (September-May) at various times and locations for Bible study, mission study and fellowship. There are coffee circles, luncheon circles and night circles, some meeting at the church and some in members' homes.
  • General Meetings: Five Times a year, Presbyterian Women join together for lunch and programs of general interest. Every woman at First Church is invited to these gatherings.
If you’d like to join a circle or contribute in other ways to the work of PW, please contact  Dionna Schooley at 301-1029.

Women’s Bible Studies

Moms on Monday—Moms of young children gather at 10 a.m. in the Miller Library for Bible study, discussion, and lively talk.  They serve one another when needs arise, serve those outside the group . . . and love to eat together!  For more information, call Summer Jenkins (481-1640) or Shannon Bair (745-8097).

Marys and Marthas—Women journeying through mid-life together enjoy weekly Bible study and prayer at 10:00 every Wednesday in the 4th-floor Tower Room.  We’re currently studying the Gospels.  We also enjoy a couple of brunches every year and serve the larger church in different ways.  Call Monte Prater (446-6418) to find out more.

Hearts for the Lord—Women of every age from First Church and the larger community attend this weekly gathering on Thursdays at  9:30 a.m. in the Bernsen Building Reception Room.  Its focus is not only Bible study, but relationships that knit the group together in Christian love.  We’re currently studying Beth Moore’s Believing God.  Find out more by calling Janet Bull (744-6822).

Year-round Small Groups

We have a few small groups of women that meet year-round on evenings and weekends.  If you would like to know more or are interested in joining or starting a new small group please contact Courtney Manring at the church (CManring@firstchurchtulsa.org, 301-1027).

Summer Book Club

What fun the (Perpetual) Summer Book Club has discussing popular fiction and non-fiction every month!  Monte Prater is our leader, but others usually pitch in to facilitate discussions on some of their favorite books.  We meet at noon on the first Wednesday of every month, and most of us bring a sack lunch.  It’s a great way to get to know some other First Church women.  Call Monte (446-6418) for details.
