The Bible in Ninety Days

Running the Race

1 – On Your Mark…
On Sunday, September 12, First Church began a race through the Bible in 90 days. In three short months, Dr. Miller will preach from Genesis to Revelation! Join in on the fun. We want everyone to be in God’s Word every day for 90 days. Don’t worry. You can do it. We’ve created a race for every speed: the Marathon, the 10K, the 5K, and the Fun Run. Read on and see how you can get going!

2 – Get Set…
Pick a pace that suits your speed. Each run comes with a bookmark to guide you through the course and to keep you on pace. Also, as every good runner knows you’ve got to find running buddies to keep you going.

marathonYes, you heard it right. You’ll be reading the WHOLE Bible in just 90 days. The goal is not to read for detail, but to read the Bible as the greatest unfolding love story ever told. You’ll need to give around an hour a day for reading. Also, plan on joining a weekly Bible in 90 Days meeting to celebrate how far you’ve been and to fuel up for where you’re going.

10kRead a chapter every day that develops the themes presentedin the sermon series. You’ll hit some of the highlights of Scripture and maybe even some stories you never knew existed. You’ll want to join a weekly Bible in 90 Days meeting as well.

5kThis is perfect for the nightly dinner table or bedtime. The Children’s Ministry has identified 90 of the greatest stories in the Bible. All the stories are linked to the Spark Bible (babies through 2nd grade) and the Adventure Bible (3rd-5th grade). These Bibles will be made available. For your older kids grab your favorite family Bible and read it together! No greater gift can be passed on to our little ones than God’s Word.

funrunTake the time each day to read and meditate on a brief Scripture passage that will prepare you for worship on Sunday. You’ll be surprised how many different ways you will see the text come to life. The perfect way to participate in the Fun Run is to join a sermon-based small group. They meet different nights around town. And they meet for fellowship, prayer, and to discuss the sermon and text from each Sunday worship.

3 – GO…
You’re off and running! To run the race well you’ll need 3 things:

1. A Bible! Grab the one that’s right for you and your family. If you need suggestions, we can help.

2. A Guide! Each track will have a bookmark that clearly lays out where you’re going and how you’re getting there. Each bookmark will tell you on what days you’re to read what scripture. Don’t worry if you get off the pace. Every runner, even great runners, do this from time to time. Just keep at it. The important thing isn’t to finish the race perfectly, but to run it well – to learn, to grow, and to love God’s Word more and more.

3. Running Buddies! Every good runner knows to run with friends. It’s essential to running well. We’ve provided some weekly gatherings so that you can be encouraged, grasp where you’ve been, and understand where you’re going. The first two listings below are classes that survey the entire Bible. These would be great for anyone longing to understand better the Bible as a whole…and all four tracks are welcome. Find some running buddies at one of the following:

a. Pastors’ Class – Sunday mornings beginning September 12 at 9:30 a.m. in the Kirkland Resource Center.
b. Wednesday Night – Join Miller, Muller and Moore in the Miller Library beginning Wednesday, September 15 at 7-8:15 p.m.
c. Sermon-Based Life Group – If you’re doing the Fun Run, then come to one of the above mentioned classes or contact the Christian Growth and Life office and join an around town small group.
d. Hearts for the Lord – Beginning Thursday, September 9 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. in the Kirkland Resource Center, bring your Christian friends and join leader, Janet Bull for this exciting study of The Bible in 90 Days. This Bible study is for Christian women of all ages and denominations.
e. The Family – Yes, believe it or not your family can be the best running buddies. Take the time at breakfast, dinner or in the evening to follow one of the tracks, reading, praying and discussing God’s Living Word.
