Do Justice, Love Kindness, Walk Humbly With Your God

Plans are well underway for the 218th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), to be held June 21-28, 2008, in San Jose, California.

The General Assembly is the highest governing body of the church and is representative of the unity of our congregations, sessions, presbyteries, and synods.

The 2008 theme is “Do justice, love kindness, walk humbly with your God” (Micah 6:8). Many important issues will be considered by commissioners and advisory delegates as they seek to discern and to represent the will of Christ for the PC(USA).

Through worship, fellowship, and decision-making, it is their hope that the 218th General Assembly will strengthen the ministry and mission of this great denomination, in the name of Jesus Christ.

A brief description of the upcoming week:
Work is divided among 17 designated Committees that will take action on approx 250 documents before the Assembly.  That work happens from Saturday (6/21) through Tuesday night.  Beginning Wednesday morning, all Committees bring their recommendations for each item to the entire set of Commissioners (Plenary Session).  That work should finish by either Friday night (6/27) or Saturday morning at the latest.  In the middle of all of that, a new General Assembly Moderator will be elected as well as a new Stated Clerk of the GA.
